1. Size

From the top view, the SMD 2835 LED (2.8*3.5mm) and the SMD 3528 LED (3.5*2.8mm) have the same external dimensions. The difference of the SMD LEDs in size is the thickness, the ply of 2835 is 0.6 to 0.8mm commonly, and that of 3528 is 1.9mm. As can be seen from the picture below, the overall thickness of the 2835 LED strip is significantly thinner, which makes it takes up less space, thus reducing the volume of the finished product.

2. Power & Brightness

Brightness is an important criterion for measuring the performance of an LED bead. It is mainly determined by the size of the diode. The largest diode size that a 3528 LED can package is 10*16nm, while the 2835 LED can package an 11*28nm diode. Therefore, the 3528's luminous flux is 6 to 9 lumens, which is much lower than the 2835's 11 to 60 lumens. It is obvious from the data that the brightness of the 2835 series is at least 1.5 to 8 times higher than that of the 3528 series. Due to the structural differences of the lamp beads themselves, which will be described in point 3, the rated power of 3528 is generally 0.06 to 0.1 watt, while that of 2835 is 0.2 to 0.5 watt. Moreover, 2835 can also be used in the field of high-power LEDs such as the 1.0W LED (PCT support) and the 3.0W LED (EMC support).

3. Heat Sink

In terms of internal construction, 2835 has a built-in heat sink that is not included in 3528. The heat sink on the back of the SMD 2835 LED effectively conducts the heat generated by the chip from the bottom of the LED. Adding the heat sink increases the heat dissipation area of the LED and makes the heat conduction more direct, thereby greatly improving the heat dissipation performance. As a result, the SMD2835 can achieve higher power, higher brightness, and better stability than the SMD3528.


4. Light Emitting Area

As shown in the picture below, the light-emitting surface of the SMD 3528 LED is round, and that of the SMD 2835 LED is square and larger than the former. The light-emitting area of 2835 is about 2.1 times that of 3528. The larger illuminating area brings higher brightness and a larger illumination range, which can effectively solve the uneven illumination caused by insufficient illumination area. Besides, 2835's light transmittance has been raised by 10% relative to 3528, further widening the brightness difference between the two.

Whether you are a manufacturer or a user, the cost and price of the product must be considered. In terms of material cost, the amount of silica gel used in 2835 was 1.4 times that of 3528 and the phosphor was 1.7 times. The thickness of the bracket used in the 2835 lamp bead is 0.3mm, which is twice the thickness of 3528. The amount of silver plated on the surface of the bracket will also grow. Due to the expansion of the capacity of China's companies in recent years, although the price is still generally higher than 3528, 2835 LEDs have come down to earth.


6. Application

As an upgraded product of 3528, 2835 has been widely used in LED light strips, LED bulbs, panel lights and other lamps due to its higher brightness, better performance, and better stability. It is highly competitive in the mid-power and low-power application lighting market. As we said at the beginning, 3528 still has a place in the current lighting market. For example, to mount as much as LEDs on a certain area and ensure that the temperature can be controlled, we need a kind of small-size and low-power light source that is the SMD 3528 LEDs.
