As we all know, white light LEDs have a pure blue light chip, although its light is similar as sunlight. Generally, a white light LED is composed of a blue-light LED chip and a fluorescent conversion material capable of emitting yellow light under blue light excitation. After the power is turned on, the blue light emitted by the chip shine on the fluorescent material to become yellow light, which mixed with the remaining blue light to white light.
Around the end of the last century, red and green LEDs were invented one after another. However, the other color of the three primary colors of white light, the blue LED, has not been successful. Compared with red and green light, blue light has higher photon energy, and the growth of blue-light materials is difficult. Many research institutions have chosen to give up after repeated setbacks. But there are very few people who persevere and finally create a miracle. In 1989, Japan’s Akasaka and Amano had developed blue LEDs for the first time in overcoming difficulties. Although the blue LED's luminous intensity was very low and had no practical application value at that time, it ignited people's enthusiasm and hope for blue LED research. In 1993, Nakamura Shuji, who worked in Nichia, successfully developed the high-brightness blue LED technology, enabling blue LEDs to be practically applied and truly opening up the era of LED lighting. The blue-light chip makes white LED lighting a reality, which shows its importance in the development of LED lighting. We use a simple calculation to understand the changes that Blu-ray led brings to our living lighting and energy saving. According to incomplete statistics, the annual electricity consumption in the world is about 200 billion kWh, of which about 19% is used for lighting. If all incandescent lamps (electrical conversion rate of about 10%), fluorescent lamps (electrical conversion rate of about 30%) are replaced with white LED lamps (electrical light conversion rate of 50% or more), then at least 1.52 billion kWh of electricity is saved globally every year. In other words, it will approximately reduce 500 million tons of coal consumption, 1.3 billion tons of carbon dioxide emission, and 4.2 million tons of sulfur dioxide emissions. The above data prove the importance of Blue-light LEDs for the improvement of white light LED lighting and promoting global energy conservation and environmental protection.
